Abstract
Brucellosis is considered an important zoonotic disease in developing states and has also been recorded in wildlife worldwide. Specifically, all the camel rearing states have reported incidents of brucellosis. The present research was delineated to investigate the seroprevalence and risk factors of brucellosis in Dera Ismail Khan of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan. Sera were collected from 100 accessible camels from all six tehsils of District D. I. Khan. All sera samples were screened with Rose Bengal Plate Test (RBPT) and In-direct ELSIA. Some of the potential risk factors (geographical location, age, body condition, parity, herd size) were statistically tested by Chi-Square Test. Out of 100 samples, 36.47% were reactive by RBPT, while 29.41% of samples had a positive reaction in ELISA in tested animals. No significance was observed statistically among all the risk factors. The result of the present investigation indicated that the brucella exists within the camels in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Routine screening and public awareness are required to control brucellosis in this region.
